Wattle-less Wattles

I got a call from a guy that told me he bought what he was told were pure bred Red Wattles from someone although they have no papers (of course). At any rate, the sow had just farrowed and 3 of his piglets had no wattles at all. He said that they are all red but no wattles. I have only had crossbreds that have not had two wattles and only 2 piglets in four years, not in one litter either. One of my babies had none the other had one wattle.
I thought that 3 in a litter of what is supposed to be a pure bred pair was alot. Does anyone else have any history of having pure bred piglets with no wattles?

Us, right now. One little gilt (litter of 5) with no wattles. Figures that she's got the nicest build and temperament, huh?
